I’ve done this in the past two years, check out 2018 and 2019 here! This is a mini overview of my 2020 reading! I was considering doing a different tag this year, but this one is so familiar and also short.
This tag was started by Adam of Memento Mori.
1. The longest book you read this year and the book that took you the longest to finish.
This is probably one and the same, but The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. It’s all five Hitchhiker’s novels plus the short story, which comes out at just over 800 pages. I started this in January and read the last novel in August.
2. A book you read in 2020 that was outside of your comfort zone.
Considering I’ve never read a paranormal adult romance or a Highlander romance before, I guess it has to be The Eternal Highlander by Hannah Howell & Lynsay Sands which made an appearance on my “Worst Books of 2020” list, so that’s what I get for reading out of my comfort zone (kidding, I kind of went in thinking it would be bad).
3. How many books did you re-read in 2020?
Seven!
4. Favorite re-read of 2020.
It’s a close one between Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire and The Lightning Thief by RIck Riordan. Both allowed me to continue/reread great series.
5. A book you read for the first time in 2020 that you look forward to re-reading in the future.
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas and Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston! Guaranteed comfort reads!
6. Favorite single short story or novella that you read in 2020.
I have one for each this year! For short story it’s “Tender-Headed” by Danny Lor in A Phoenix First Must Burn edited by Patrice Caldwell and for novella, Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey.
7. Mass Appeal: A book you liked and would recommend to a wide variety of readers.
Because of the set up and overall plot, I think a lot of people would enjoy The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin. It read like a TV show!
8. Specialized Appeal: A book you liked but would be hesitant to recommend to just anyone
This feels like a cop-out, but my answer for this question is The Rise of Kyoshi as well as the first three Avatar: The Last Airbender graphic novels, The Promise, The Search, and the Rift. Because if you haven’t watched A:tLA, then you probably won’t understand anything.
9. Reflect on your year as a bookish content creator (goals met, good/bad memories, favorite posts you made, etc).
I’m proud of how I actually read books this year (no shade to anyone who had a poor reading year). It was how I coped with everything going on in the world. On the flip side, blogtober was way more stressful in 2020 than 2019, maybe because I wasn’t following someone’s specific plan.9
Favorite posts include Horror Media Journey, my review of Chemically Enhanced Butch, and one of my most popular posts of the year; Best Books Under 300 pages. I have no idea why that post in particular got so many views, but I am not complaining.
As per usual, if you want to do this tag as a mini 2020 wrap up, consider yourself tagged!
