Starting off 2019 with a tag I saw from Adrinna from perpetualpages. You can see their video here. I felt it would be a good way to round off 2018. And yes, I know I’m taking a video tag and writing it out, but it’s my blog.
All books I have read, I will be linking my GoodReads review for in the title.
So let’s get started:
- The longest book you read this year and the book that took you the longest to finish.
The longest book I read, according to GoodReads, was The Savior’s Champion by Jenna Moreci and it certainly felt like the longest book.
The book that has taken me the longest to finish, I’m going to say is a book I still haven’t finished, City of Strife by Claudie Arseneault. I still haven’t finished it, part because I started it before I started a very hard school semester and since my break started, I haven’t gotten around to it. This is because I feel I need to read all at once because within 6 chapters I have read, there are 6 different perspectives.
- A book you read in 2018 that was outside of your comfort zone.
There really isn’t one that fits this. The closest was Evalene’s Number: The Number Series by Bethany Atazadeh, which was a Christian dystopian I didn’t finish. I wasn’t aware it was Christian when I grabbed it while it was free on Amazon, but I stopped finishing in part because I didn’t think I’d liek that type of book and I wasn’t enjoying it overall.
- How many books did you re-read in 2018?
Only one!
- Favorite re-read of 2018.
Kim & Kim, Volume 1 by Magdalene Visaggio and Eva Cabrera. I’m glad I did reread it nearly immediately after my first read because initially I wasn’t sure my opinions of it. The reread helped me realize that I did like it and I’m on the hunt for the second volume.
- A book you read for the first time in 2018 that you look forward to re-reading in the future.
Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller. I was thinking of rereading the book days after I read it and it stuck with me for weeks, so now that I have the sequel, I am planning on reading it sometime in January.
- Favorite single short story or novella that you read in 2018.
I can’t pick a specific short story, so I’m going to lump all the short stories from No Man of Woman Born by Ana Mardoll together. This anthology is all about fantasy prophesies broken by trans characters existing and it is an absolute delight and should be way more popular.
For my favorite novella, I’d have to pick Caroline’s Heart by Austin Chant (I also feel like this is the only thing I read that counts as a novella). It’s a magical western with trans characters.
- Mass Appeal: A book you liked and would recommend to a wide variety of readers.
Definitely Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde. Phenomenal for an accurate portrayal of geek culture, a wonderful diverse cast, and friendships. It’s cute and adorable.
- Specialized Appeal: A book you liked but would be hesitant to recommend to just anyone.
Travelers by V.S. Holmes. It’s part sci-fi and part archaeology. It gets very into the archaeology parts and therefore people may get lost.
- Reflect on your year as a bookish content creator (goals met, good/bad memories, favorite videos you made, etc).
Well… I stopped uploading videos this year, thanks to terrible time management and not wanting to download a video editor. Combined with YouTube being a goddamn mess, I made all my videos private.
This isn’t the best development, but I’m happy with how my blog is coming along. I hope I can make it even better come 2019.
And if any of you want to do this tag, in blog form or video form, go for it!
I hope you all have a great 2019!
