Book Postscript Tag 2019

I really liked this tag last year, so I’m doing it again! This tag was started by Adam of Memento Mori.

1.The longest book you read this year and the book that took you the longest to finish.

The longest book, according to GoodReads, was A Queen Rises by Lola Andrews. This is an indie dark fantasy with a bisexual main character.

The book that took the longest is either Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen or Empire of Light by Alex Harrow, it depends on how you consider them. I started Empire of Light in March, but put it down, marked it as “to read” in GoodReads again, and restarted it in December. With P&P, I started it in May and it stayed on my “currently reading” shelves for the entire second half of the year.

2 A book you read in 2019 that was outside of your comfort zone.

This is a hard one this year, so I have two. This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone was the first time I really read a sci-fi book with time-travel, especially time-travel like this. The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo was my first book in verse and I loved it.

3. How many books did you re-read in 2019?

5!

4. Favorite re-read of 2019.

I Wish You All The Best. It’s one of my favorite books of 2019 and rereading it solidified my love for it.

5. A book you read for the first time in 2019 that you look forward to re-reading in the future.

Sorcery of Thorns, no question.

6. Favorite single short story or novella that you read in 2019.

For short story, definitely “Marigold” by Samantha Shannon from the anthology Because You Love to Hate Me: 13 Tales of Villainy. For novella, To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers.

Both of these made me want to read the author’s full novels even sooner, so I feel like that’s evidence enough that they’re my favorite.

7. Mass Appeal: A book you liked and would recommend to a wide variety of readers.

I Wish You All The Best is a YA contemporary that deals with mental health along with being nonbinary. I feel a lot of different people would be able to get something out of reading it.

8. Specialized Appeal: A book you liked but would be hesitant to recommend to just anyone

I want to recommend City of Strife to a lot of people, but it’s a lot of perspectives, and I don’t know if everyone would be able to keep them straight.

9. Reflect on your year as a bookish content creator (goals met, good/bad memories, favorite posts you made, etc).

Honestly, I still can’t believe I stuck with the blog throughout the whole year! I started this on a whim December 2018, and I thought I would lose interest or not have time, but I made it work. I also can’t believe I broke through 100 followers in the first year!

I still don’t really see my content as “special” or anything. I don’t have unique series or ideas, but maybe that will change next year!

If you want to complete this tag, consider yourself tagged! This is a really fun way to look at the past year!
