A Randomized TBR for 2019

Due to college and my inability to properly time-manage, I don’t really make monthly TBRs.

So I decided to try a TBR for the whole of 2019, just some books I could see if I could try and read this year.

To make it more interesting, I decided to make it completely random. I randomly chose the page on my TBR and the number of the book on that page. Unless the book was out of print or going to be released in 2020, I put it on the list.

I’m hoping to read at least half of these, so at least 5 by the end of the year. I’m giving myself some slack as this is the first time im trying something like this.

So this is my randomized 2019 TBR:

  • How to Be You: Stop Trying to Be Someone Else and Start Living Your Life by Jeffrey Marsh

This is a self help book by non-binary speaker, Jeffrey Marsh. Apparently there are cute fill in sections as well?

  • Survival by A.M. Hargrove

This is a sci-fi romance I got years ago when I was on the hunt for free e-books. There’s aliens and that’s about all I can gather.

  • The Emperor’s Edge by Lindsay Buroker

Another one where I’m not quiet sure the plot of it. It’s a mix of steampunk and fantasy with a heist apparently?

  • I Knew Him by Abigail de Niverville

To be released in 2019, this has bisexual boys falling in love during their high school production of Hamlet. I’m really excited for when this comes out.

  • Girl Mans Up by M-E Girard

A contemporary YA novel about a butch lesbian dealing with how people see her as a butch lesbian.

  • Turtles All the Way Down by John Green

Aza, the main character, has anxiety and OCD (ownvoices) and all I know about the plot is that she’s looking for a billionaire. I may read this along with a reread of all John Green’s books as it’s been 7 years roughly since I read them.

  • Zenith by Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings

A controversial release last year as some people adored it and some people thought it was terrible.. All I know is that it has lady space pirates and that’s a very compelling summary for me.

  • The Light at the Bottom of the World by London Shah

To be released in 2019, this sci-fi novel follows a Muslim girl living in an underwater sea-base who must enter a race to save her family.

  • She Wore Red Trainers by Na’ima B. Robert

A hijabi girl and Muslim boy fall in love. I learned about this book because ina review for a book I already own, the reviewer said this was a better representation of Muslim people/culture, so I may read those together.

  • The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee

To be released in 2019, a historical fiction novel about a (I believe) Chinese-American girl who is a maid by day, but by night she writes an anonymous advice column.

So we’ve got a self-help book, a book I got when I was like 12 because it was free, some 2019 releases, and a couple books that were definitely on the bottom of my list. This is… wild.

But either way, most of these books I would not have picked up if it weren’t for the fact that I randomly selected them.

Let me know in the comments if you guys have read any of these books and enjoyed them! Or if you’ve tried making a TBR like this!
