So I have even more wlw books to yell about! All of these I’ve rated either 3.5 stars or higher (with most being on my Favorites list)!
These are just the books I adored with sapphic relationships (or relationships between two women), not all the books I’ve read with sapphic characters (so if a book has a bisexual girl and her primary romance is with a guy, that won’t be on this list, that’s for another list).
This Is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone & Amal El-Mohtar
This book is really unlike any I’ve read before. It’s really weird sci-fi centered on a time travel war fought by these two factions and we see through the eyes of two enemy agents. The story is mostly told in letters, which lends itself to some of the most gorgeous prose and pining I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.
On A Sunbeam by Tillie Walden
I really need to reread this graphic novel because not only is it gorgeous, it’s all about found family and protecting those we love and never giving up. Also queerness is normalized so not only is the main relationship f/f, just about all of the background relationships are also f/f.
The Dark Tide by Alicia Jasinska
Do you like your sapphics to not be soft all the time? Do you like a little darkness thrown in? Do you like playing on the tropes of “hero” and “villain”?
This is a hate to love f/f romance that is VERY atmospheric! Witches! Coastal aesthetic! Dancing! Sea monsters! Also, briefly tackles still requiring representation in media even if being queer is normal, which I super appreciate.
You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson
This was really cute. I for some reason thought this was an enemies to lovers romance, but instead it was a super sweet strangers to friends to lovers romance that had me grinning at each page. You want gay black girl joy? This is the YA contemporary for you!
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
This book is utterly iconic, as it goes into how queer people have always been here, how the stress to hiding being gay could strain a relationship, and ultimately, how one woman’s ambitions have the potential to hurt everyone around her.
The Never Tilting World by Rin Chupeco
Odessa and Lan live in my head rent free. Not only is their relationship cute, it’s all about Lan trying to keep Odessa and the rest of the exploration party alive while Odessa keeps going deeper into darkness in the name of saving her world and proving herself. It truly was the highlight of the book and is my main basis for recommending it in the future.
